Monday, 4/20

Reading
1. Journal - If you could give a gift to anyone in the world, who would you give it to? What would you give them?
    1. Write the date at the top of the page: April 20, 2020
    2. Write your answer using neat handwriting, uppercase letters and punctuation marks.
    3. Read your entry to an adult or older sibling and fix any mistakes.
    4. Illustrate your entry with a colorful picture.
2. Review Magic Words and Spelling words
3. Complete "Write 3 Ways"
4. Reading workbook page 49
5. Read story with Miss Tosti and complete the "Spring Cleaning" activity HERE

     - learn what measurement is and to compare lengths
     - complete Big Book pages 413-414 

Religion
1. Do Special Intentions
2. Read pages 196-197 and review:
       -  that sacraments are sign given to us by Jesus. They bring us closer to God.
       - to become a Catholic you must be baptized
       - you cannot receive any other sacraments until you are baptized
       - most of us are baptized when we are babies, but you can also be baptized and become a Catholic at any age.

Religion
1. Do Special Intentions
2. Review from yesterday that Baptism is the sacrament that welcomes us as a member of the Catholic Church. We need to be baptized before we can receive any other sacrament.
3. Read pages 198-199 and discuss:
       - what does the plant need to grow? 
       - why is water so important for us and plants?
       - explain that water is a sign of new life and it is sign of Baptism because Baptism starts our new life as a member of the Church.
       - When we receive sacraments we receive God's grace. Grace is God's love in us. 
       - Talk about the difference between a Baptismal pool and font.

3. Watch this VIDEO to:
      - read the story with Miss Tosti
      - complete Tomas Rivera sequence activity
4. Rewatch "Big, Bigger Biggest" HERE and complete the "Synonym Chef" paper for the 5 synonyms from the story. Pause the video to copy down the synonyms if you have too or think of a new one!
    - Share your 5 synonyms on FlipGrid HERE
5. Complete "Contraction Match Up"

Math
1. Watch this VIDEO to:
    - complete "Longest and Shortest" worksheet
    - learn about Non-standard Measurement" 
    - complete Big Book pages 407-408
   ** you will need pennies to use for measuring**

Religion
1. Do Special Intentions
2. Review:
      - that water is a symbol of Baptism and new life
      - Grace is God's love in us
3. Read pages 200-203 and talk about what happens when someone gets baptized. Talk about your child's Baptism with them. Who are their godparents? What church were they baptized in? What did they wear? Were they baptized in a pool or font? Take out pictures if you have them!

5. Read you Magic Words to someone or HAVE ME QUIZ YOU on them here. You can mark them correct or incorrect on the last page of your reading test. 
6. Read "Tomas Rivera" and take your reading test. (I only read the questions on the first page (not the answer choices). They should be able to complete the rest themselves, but of course help them if they have any questions!

Friday, 4/24 - Catch Up, Enrichment and Specials Day

Optional Math Activity - Watch/read Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni on Bookflix- pick an animal from the story and have your child illustrate it. Make sure they draw it large enough to measure! If you have gummy worms you can break off a piece and use that to measure, or you can use a different type of candy or something else to measure. Just make sure it is the same size and shape! More explicit directions and an example were attached to Sunday's email.
