Dear Parents,

We made it through another week! The kids have been doing great. It is nice to see them working together and taking pride in their work. Thanks for reinforcing all we learn in school at home :).

- Please consider helping out with The Giving Tree Project to help with our adopted school from Houston.

- Directions for the Religion homework will be sent home today. Please read them and help your child complete it neatly on the paper provided. Please have your child put their first and last name and the date (9/29/17) on the first line of the theme paper. Thanks for you help!

- We will have our first Religion test on Wednesday. Please use the review sheet to study.

- Our field trip is on Thursday! Please send in permission form and payment ($27 cash or check) by tomorrow. Kids should wear their gym uniform (please check the weather and make sure your child wears appropriate clothing). Week of 9/18

Thanks, Mrs. DiMarino, for being our first Mystery Reader of the year!

Dear Parents,

We survived our first full week of first grade! I hope the kids enjoyed it and are settling into school and our routines. I hope that you are continuing to set routines at home and are giving your child more responsibility. I had a few kids last week tell me that, "Mom forgot to..." and we talked about how it is not mom's job but our own to put things back in our school bag etc. The more we work on this the more independent they will become!

Here are your reminders for the week:

- Journals were sent home last week to be decorated.  It would be great if they could be decorated and covered by Friday, September 29th.

- We will have our first school Mass on Wednesday at 9:00am. Please join us!

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. I will read all of the questions and answers for the first few tests. The reader will be sent home this week so you can read and review the story at home.

- Our first Spelling test will also be on Friday. We have been practicing a lot with short A words in school. Please review the words at home each night as well.

- Magic Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night.

- T-Shirt project is due on Friday!

- Our first field trip to Highland Orchards is next Thursday, September 28th! Permission forms will be sent home. Please return them by Monday, September 25th. I need 4 chaperones who have all clearances turned in. If you would like to come please email me and I will draw names out of a hat later this week. We will be leaving school around 9 am and returning around 1 pm.

- First in Math usernames and passwords will be given out this week. I will tape them on the inside of each child's Home Folder. This is a website that can be used at home to review math skills throughout the year and will also be given as math homework on Thursday nights. If you have any questions please let me know!

I think that is it for this week! Please email me if you have any questions!

Week of 9/11

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 19!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- These first few weeks of school are very important for setting expectations and learning our classroom routines and procedures. Students thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and know what is expected of them. I urge you to also have expectations and routines at home for things like completing homework, studying and reading. For example, each day after school your child can eat a snack, take out their homework copybook and begin their homework. You can even have a set place for them to complete their work. Simple things like this will help your child to become responsible, organized and independent!

- Please be sure to check your child's "Home Folder" every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school. These will be in the "Home" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "To School" side. I ask that your child's behavior calendar (please initial the calendar each night), homework (if a worksheet) and Magic Words envelope stay in the "To School" and be returned each day.

- An "All About Me" project will be sent home this week. Please complete this with your child. it will be due next Friday, September 22nd.

- We will have homework this week so start your homework routine today/tonight!

- I need Mystery Readers for the following Thursdays from 2:00-2:30 in September: 9/14, 9/21, and 9/28. Please email me if you are available!

- Friday will be a Dress Down Day for hurricane victims. Please send in $1.00 with your child. Please also review the dress down day policy in the school handbook.

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)

Thanks!
Miss Tosti
