Week of 12/17

The kids were wonderful at the concert last week!
Thank you Mrs. Ciavarelli for coming in and reading to us!

Dear Parents,

Before we get to the happenings of this week I would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year! I hope you take some time to relax and enjoy all the blessings in your life. Please know that all of us here at SKS are so thankful for you and your support.

The last week before Christmas break will be FULL of Christmas fun! Here is what we will be doing:

- No homework this week! Merry Christmas!

- Field trip permission forms and money are due tomorrow! Thank you!

- There will be a short quiz on Fact Families on Tuesday. The kids really have a great grasp on this and we will review it today and tomorrow before the quiz.

- Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday. Please sign the envelope and return it. You may keep the report card. Thanks!

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return.

- The 5th-8th grades will put on Tableau this Wednesday night at 7:00pm in the Church. They really do a wonderful job at reminding everyone about the true meaning of Christmas. All are welcome to go.

- We will be doing different Christmas STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) activities all week. We will learn about how snowflakes and igloos are made (and make our own) and we will build Christmas trees using toothpicks and gum drops! The kids will definitely be putting their imaginations to good use!

- Friday is our bowling trip with our 8th grade buddies! Please make sure your child has a morning snack or money for a pretzel that they can take to eat at the alley. Pizza will be provided for lunch when we get back from bowling. Please refrain form sending in gifts for buddies. We made them Christmas cards :)

- Friday is a dress down day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down. If your child doesn't dress down they can wear their gym uniform to school since we will be going on our field trip. Pajamas are also allowed on this day :).

- School resumes on Thursday, January 3rd!

Have wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Last week in Science!

Last week in our Science lesson we learned about scientist and what they do. We talked about how scientist are always curious. They ask questions which lead to more questions, pay attention to details discover things that change the world, and are always learning. We examined our hands in great detail and drew them. Then partners worked together to come up with questions they had. Their questions were awesome! I think we have some future scientist in our class!

Week of 10/15

Learning Addition

Last week we started our unit on addition. We learned that addition is adding two parts to make one whole. We also learned that the numbers we add are called addends and that the answer is called a sum. Our main focus last week was working on how to make 10. We used ten frames to help up learn all the ways to get a sum of 10. Then we practiced how to use those facts to help us add larger numbers. It can be a little confusing at first, but the kids did a great job at grasping this concept! Of course, letting them write on their desks was helpful! Ask your child one night this week to show you how it works! Next up will be make sums of 20!

Dear Parents,
