Week of 9/28

Dear Parent/s,

I hope everyone enjoyed the days off for the World Meeting of Families and the Holy Father's visit to Philadelphia. It was really momentous occasion! Now it is time to get back into the swing of school! October is going to be a busy month. Here are the reminders for this week:

- Please be sure to check your child's home folder and behavior calendar each night.

- Since we do not have workbooks yet, I will be sending home reading and math packets for homework. A page (sometimes 2) is to be completed each night and returned the next day to be checked. Please do not keep the packets home until Friday. If you would like to go ahead you may, just please return it every day so I can check. Thank you!

- Permission forms for our field trip next Friday, October 9th will be sent home this week. Please send them back in a labeled envelope as soon as possible. Thanks!

- We will have our first Reading test this Friday on the story "Jack and the Wolf." The kids will also be tested on their first 10 Magic Words. Please be sure to review them each night.

- We will have our first Religion test on Thursday on Chapter 1. A study guide will be sent home so you can review at home.

Religion
We will finish up Chapter 1- "God is Our Father" and we will have our first Religion test on Thursday.

Magic Words: call, come, every, hear, said, and, be, play, with, away

Math
We will be working a lot with numbers this week! Skills will include what number comes before, after and between, ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. We will also begin to to compare numbers and learn the symbols <, > and =.

Week of 9/21


Our first mystery reader of the year! Thanks, Mrs. McCracken!

Dear Parent/s,

We have a short week this week with the World Meeting of Families and the visit from Pope Francis, so there is not too much going on this week. Here a few reminders:

- There will be no homework this week.

- Journals need to be decorated and covered by Friday, October 2.

- I am still in need of Mystery Readers for October 15th, 22nd and 29th. Please let me know if you are interested.

- Our field trip to Highland Orchards will be on Friday, October 9th. We will leave SKS at 9:00 and will return around 1:30. If you have all of your clearances and are interested in chaperoning, please let me know by email or note by Monday, September 28th. Sorry, no siblings. Remember, if you are ordering lunch for October, first grade will not need it that day.

A Peek at Our Week!

Religion: Unit 1 - "Jesus Teaches Us About God's Love"
We will be learning about the story of creation and how we were all made in the image and likeness of God. We will also learn about how God made each of us different!

Reading
Story: "Jack and the Wolf"
Target Skill: Characters
Phonics Skill: Short A sound and -ck words
Grammar: Complete sentences


Math
This week we will focus on writing numbers and number words. We will also work on putting numbers in order and filling in missing numbers on hundreds charts.

Week of 9/13



Dear Parent/s,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 19!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- Please be sure to check your child's "Home Folder" every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school and you may keep the homework paper at home as well. These will be in the "Home" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "To school" side. I ask that your child's behavior calendar (please initial the calendar each night), homework (if a worksheet) and Magic Words envelope be returned each day.

- An "All About Me" project will be sent home today. Please complete this with your child. it will be due next Monday, September 21st.

- There will be no tests this week.

- We will be celebrating Mass on Thursday at 9:00am. All are welcome to join us!

- I need a Mystery Reader for this Thursday, 9/17 and the following Thursdays in October: 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22 and 10/29. Please email me if any of those dates work for you!

- Friday will be a Dress Down day. Please send in $1.00 with your child. Please also review the dress down day policy in the school handbook :).
