PLANTS, PLANTS, PLANTS!

PLANTS, PLANTS, PLANTS!

The first grade has been having a lot of fun learning about the life cycle of plants! For the past month or so we have learned about the parts of a seed and how they grow into plants. The best part is that we actually got to see this process happen right before our eyes in our own Tower Garden!

Back in February during kindness week, we planted our "seeds of kindness" to start our process. Each child placed seeds in the little pods. When they turned into sprouts we placed them in the Tower Garden and labeled our variety of lettuces and herbs. Then we watched and waited!

Each week our lettuces grew fuller and bigger! The kids loved seeing the transformation! However, their favorite part was when we had our "Salad Party!" Our lettuces were ready for harvesting so each student got to pick about 10 leaves of lettuce and chose some dressing to go with it! Just about every first grader ate every piece! The peppery arugula was definitely the crowd favorite!

We will continue to grow and harvest our lettuces and herbs! We hope to send each kid home with a bag of lettuce so you can try it at home too!

Week of 4/1

Dear Parents,

Happy April! The kids did a great job taking the Terra Nova tests last week and I am so proud of them. This week we will get back to our normal schedule and work hard for the next two weeks until Easter Break. Here are the reminders for the week:

- We will have a Religion test on Chapter 15 on Friday. A study guide will be sent home today.

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return on Wednesday.

- Our Monthly Mass will be this Friday at 9:00 am. Please join us!

- If you would like to be Mystery Reader on Thursday, April 11th please let me know!

- Spring uniforms start next Monday, April 8th! Please note that the kids will still have to wear their winter uniform for the May Procession on Wednesday, May 22nd.

- A special blog will be going out today about the first grade tower garden and how much fun we have been having with it!

That is all for now!

Third Grade Fun!
Last week we learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly! The students learned about the four stages in the cycle, that butterflies actually have 4 wings and that some butterflies can travel up to 12 mph! To finish up the small unit, our third grade friends from Mrs. Bondi's class visited us. The first graders taught them all about the life cycle as they completed a book together. We had a great time!
