Week of 12/19

Mrs. Gallagher got us in the Christmas spirit with home holiday books!

Dear Parents,

Before we get to the happenings of this week I would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year! I hope you take some time to relax and enjoy all the blessings in your life.

The last week before Christmas break will be FULL of Christmas fun! Here is what we will be doing:

- No homework this week! Merry Christmas!

- On Tuesday, Mrs. Downs will be coming in to teach the kids a little about Hanukkah!

- Wednesday will be our Polar Express Day! We will make pizzelles, drink hot chocolate and watch the Polar Express. Thank you to everyone who donated supplies!

- The 5th-8th grades will put on Tableau this Wednesday night at 7:00pm in the Church. They really do a wonderful job at reminding everyone about the true meaning of Christmas. All are welcome to go.

- Thursday is our bowling trip with our 8th grade buddies! Please make sure they have a morning snack or money for a pretzel that they can take to eat at the alley. Pizza will be provided for lunch when we get back from bowling.

- Thursday is a dress down day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down. If your child doesn't dress down they can wear their gym uniform to school since we will be going on our field trip.

- School resumes on Tuesday, January 3rd!

Have a great break!

Week of 9/19

Thank you, Mrs. Daniels for being our first Mystery Reader!

Dear Parents,

We made it through our first full week! We are settling in and getting used to our routine. Speaking of routines, this is the perfect time to get your child into one for after school when they get home. Children thrive when they have a routine and know what is going to happen. It's a great idea to do homework at the same time every day and in the same quiet space where they have everything they need to complete it. They should be responsible for making sure they have completed everything, had it checked by an adult, and put everything back into their school bag for the next day. If you do this every day I promise homework time will become a piece of cake!

Here are your reminders for the week:

- Homework starts and can be found on the blog and in your child's "HW" copybook.

- Journals will be sent home this week so you can begin decorating. Please make sure they are sent back to school each day. It would be great if they could be decorated and covered by Monday, September 26th.

- We will have our first school Mass on Thursday at 9:00am. Please join us!

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. We will take this together as a practice test so we can get used to the types of questions that will be asked on future tests. This will count as a grade.

- Magic Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night.

- Our first Spelling test will be on Friday, September 30 and it will be on number words. (1-10). We will start practicing this week.

I think that is it for this week! Please email me if you have any questions!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 19!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- Please be sure to check your child's "Home Folder" every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school and you may keep the homework paper at home as well. These will be in the "Home" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "To school" side. I ask that your child's behavior calendar (please initial the calendar each night), homework (if a worksheet) and Magic Words envelope be returned each day.

- An "All About Me" project will be sent home today. Please complete this with your child. it will be due next Monday, September 19th.

- Homework and tests will start next week :)

- I need Mystery Readers for the following Thursdays from 2:00-2:30 in September: 9/15, 9/22, and 9/29. Please email me if you are available.

- Friday will be a Dress Down day. Please send in $1.00 with your child. Please also review the dress down day policy in the school handbook :).
