Week of 2/29

Dear Parents,

Another month has ended and I can't believe how quickly the year is flying by. Spring is right around the corner! Here are the reminders for this week:

- We will be taking the Terra Nova tests this week. Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest and eats a healthy breakfast in the morning. I also ask that you make sure they have at least two sharpened #2 pencils for school each day.

- There will be no homework or tests this week due to Terra Nova.

-  I am looking for Mystery Readers for 3/3 and 3/10 from 2:00-2:30. It would be great if every child in the class had someone come to read. If you haven't read yet and those dates work please let me know. If you would like to come and have a different date open we can set something up as well.

- A Spring book report will be sent home today. Please read the directions carefully and help your child complete it neatly. This will be due on Friday, March 18th. Reports can be handed in early if completed.

- Last year to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the first grade created their own "leprechaun traps" and presented them to their classes. We will do the same project this year! Information will be sent home today and the traps will be due on Thursday, March 17th.

We will begin our unit on Telling Time this week. We will learn about the hands on the clock and practice telling time to the hour and half hour. We will also keep reviewing counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

Week of 2/22

Dear Parents,

This week we will finish up reviewing for the Terra Nova test so we are prepared to take them next week. A schedule and some tips for test taking will be sent home later this week. We have a pretty normal week planned so here are your reminders:

- We will start our last story in Unit 3 this week. Please be sure to review spelling and Magic Words each night.

- We will take the Terra Nova practice test on Thursday this week.

- There will be a Religion test on Friday. A study guide will be sent home.

- There will be a math quiz on 10 more/less on Friday.

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return them on Wednesday.

Week of 2/15

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! This week we will continue preparing to take the Terra Nova test which will be taken the week of 2/28.  A schedule of the test will be sent home next week along with some test taking tips. If you have any questions please let me know. Here are the reminders for the week:

- Thanks for everyone who came to Grandparents/Special Friends Day! It was wonderful meeting everyone. Be sure to check out some pictures below :)

- Wednesday afternoon we will go to the 8th Grade Business Day. If you would like to send in money for your child to shop, please place it in a labeled envelope. ($10 is usually more than enough). If your child has an allergy and you do not wish for them to purchase food please let me know and I will help them find something else to buy.

- We will have a math test on Place Value on Thursday. A review will be sent home tomorrow.

- Friday we will have a reading and spelling test on the story "The Big Race."

- Monday 2/22 will be a Dress Down Day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down.

Math

We will have a test on Place Value on Thursday. Students will need to look at place value blocks and write the correct number. They will also have to identify the value of a an underlined digit in a number. Adding/Taking away 10 will not be on this test but we will continue to work on it. We will also keep reviewing counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

Week of 2/8

Dear Parents,

We had a great time celebrating Catholic Schools Week! Check out some pictures below of a few of the activities that we did last week. We have another busy week so please pay attention to the reminders:

- Tomorrow we will go to the Book Fair and have Grandparents/Special Friends day. Our class will be making a craft from 9:30-10:00 and then shop from 10:00-10:30. *If there are any changes due the possibility of snow tomorrow I will email you ASAP.

- Tomorrow night there is a Home and School meeting at 7:00pm. Sr. Pat is back to talk again. She was wonderful at the last meeting and if you can make it I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

- Wednesday we will celebrate the beginning of Lent. We will have Mass at 9:00am if you would like to join us!

- We will have a small Valentine's Day party on Friday. We will make bags in school to put our valentines in. Please make sure you make a valentine for everyone in the class (if you need a class list let me know). If you would like to send them in early this week please feel free (just have them marked with your child's name). Thank you to who ever volunteered to send treats in!

- We are starting a new story this week and have new Magic Words. We will continue with Place Value and will start working with mentally adding and taking about 10 from numbers.

- We will continue reviewing for the Terra Nova tests as well.

Week of 2/1

Dear Parents,

Happy Catholic Schools Week! It was great seeing many of you at Mass yesterday to celebrate the start of this fun week! Last week I sent out schedule of the activities for the week and I will post it again on here for you to refer to throughout the week.  Here are some reminders:

- We will not start a new story this week. We will begin working with long i and review long a and e and other skills we have been working on for the past few weeks.

- We will start reviewing for the Terra Nova Test this week. We will take this test the last week in in February.

- If you haven't been a mystery reader and would like to in February please let me know. The dates are 2/11, 2/18, and 2/25 from 2:00-2:30.

-Here is the schedule for CSW. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Monday - Community Service Day

 - Thanks for all of those who donated deodorant. We will be preparing care packages for those in need.

Tuesday - Crazy 8s Day

 - Students can add 8 crazy items to their school uniform (hats, socks etc.)

 - Spelling Bee for grades K-4

Wednesday - Health Fair

 - Students are to wear their gym uniforms

Thursday - Blue and White Day

 - Students can dress down in blue and white for $1 (goes to the health fair).

 - Students will partake in Minute to Win It games

 - Student vs. Teacher basketball game

Friday

 - Closing Mass 9:00. Please join us!

 - 12:00 pm dismissal

* All week we will be collecting cans for the Souper Bowl of Caring Collection.
