Week of 10/2

Mrs. Johnson was our first Mystery Reader of the year!

Dear Parents,

Happy October! The kids are settling in and have been doing a great job. I cannot believe we are finished with September already. October will certainly fly by as well. Here are your reminders for this week:

- Information about the first grade Saints Presentation was sent home last week. Each child may choose any saint they want! The report will be due next Wednesday 10/11, so please work on it this week. Please make sure the report and the picture are done neatly. Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class for a grade. The Saints Presentation will be on Friday, October 27th at 9:00 am in the Church.

- The kids will be given "book bags" this week which have books in them that reinforce the short vowel letters we have learned so far. They will be allowed to bring them home to practice reading if they want, I just ask that they take care of the books and remember to bring them back each day so we can use the books for future classes!

- If you haven't signed the permission form or paid for the field trip on Thursday, October 26th please do so this week. If you would like to be in the drawing for a chaperone please email me! The drawing will be at the end of this week. The permission for can  be found HERE.

- We will have a math quiz tomorrow on number sense and addition. A review will be sent home tonight for homework.

- We've decided with the new reading series and the weekly testing that we will take the Religion tests together in school. Hopefully this will allow for more time to focus on reading and math at home! We will take the Chapter 2 quiz together on Thursday.

- There will be a spelling, sight word and reading quiz on Friday. Please study spelling and sight words each night!

- You will find all of your child's app logins in the inside cover of their Homework Copybook. We have used all the apps in school now so they should be familiar if you want to use them at home! I highly suggest using Xtramath a few nights each week to reinforce math facts!

- We will have an author visit on Friday afternoon. If you are interested in ordering the book please use this link:  https://childrensbookworld.net/moyle-oct-5-at-st-katharine/

- Looking ahead, we have off on Monday, 10/9 and winter uniforms will start Tuesday, 10/10!

- Please review all spelling words and sight words each night to prepare for the test on Friday. There will also be a short reading quiz that we will prepare for in school.

- If you could check your child's homework for neat handwriting (especially letter and number reversals) and completeness that would be great. We've been working on writing neatly and in lower case letters in school and it would great if it could be reinforced at home.

Week of 9/11

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade and are looking forward to a great year! Thanks to all of you who came to Back to School Night! It was great to meet everyone! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 19!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- The first few weeks of school are very important for setting expectations and learning our classroom routines and procedures. Students thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and know what is expected of them. I urge you to also have expectations and routines at home as well. For example, each day after school your child can eat a snack, empty their home folder, complete their homework and practice their sight words and spelling words for the week. Simple chores like packing their school bags, helping pack lunches/snack and making their beds will help your child to become responsible, organized and independent!

- Please be sure to check your child's "Home Folder" with them every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school. These will be in the "Home" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "To School" side. I ask that your child's clip chart calendar be initialed each night. Please make sure that the calendar, homework (if a worksheet) stay in the "To School" and be returned each day.

- We will start off slow with homework the first few weeks so the kids can get back into the swing of it!

- On Friday, we will be having our One Book, One School Book Club. Students are asked to wear their t-shirt that will be sent home today with their gym shorts. We will be talking about "Boxitects" and completing a fun activity with our 8th grade Buddies.

- There will be a dress down day on Monday, 9/18. Please send in $1.00 to dress down.

- The Mystery Reader sign up genius is up! You can find it under the "Mystery Reader" tab. Please sign up to read for one slot only as of now. If you have any questions please let me know!

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)

Thanks!
Miss Tosti

Dear Parents,

Only two weeks left and a lot is going on! Here are your reminders for this week:

- Donuts with Dads will be tomorrow morning at 8:30am on the playground. Right now the forecast looks great!  All dads should meet us in the playground area with a blanket! We will meet you outside at 8:30.

- Homework this week is to study for exams. Please let me know if you have any questions about the exam schedule.

- Friday is a dress down day! Please send in $1.00 to dress down. All proceeds will benefit the SUDC  Foundation in honor Julian Mittman.

- Tests folders will not be going home this week but all grades are posted on Option C. If you have any questions about a test please let me know and I can send it home.

- Half days start on Wednesday for the rest of the year. Please make sure you child knows how they are getting home since some buses won't be running.

- Next Monday is Spirit Day! The kids will find out if they are on the blue or white team this week! On Monday they can wear their color to school! Please make sure you send them with their school bag, a labeled water bottle and put sunscreen on them prior to coming to school!

I think that is it! Have a great week!
