Week of January 26th

Dear Parent/s,

Happy Catholic Schools Week! Thanks to everyone who came to the Mass and Open House yesterday. It was great seeing you all! With the weather forecast and all of the planned activities, it is bound to be a fun but hectic week. Due to our schedule being a little off there will be no homework or tests this week. This would be a good time to really practice math facts and timed math. Next week we will have a reading/spelling test and a subtraction math test. You can see the Catholic Schools Week schedule posted below.

Have a great week!

Week of January 19th

Dear Parent/s,

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! I can't believe we are halfway through January already. We have a pretty calm week before the start of Catholic Schools Week on Sunday. Here are a few reminders:

- Please be sure to check your child's homework. The past two weeks many kids have been forgetting to complete all of their work. Thanks for your help with this.

- If you have not replenished your child's art supplies or index cards please do so this week.

- We will have a Religion test on Chapter 9 on Friday.

- This Sunday we will open Catholic Schools Week with Mass at 11:30 am. This will be followed by Open House at 12:30 pm at the school. Please join us and we prepare for a fun-filled week!

- I will be sending home the schedule of activities for Catholic Schools Week later this week so you can prepare for all of the different things that we will be doing next week.

That is it for now!

Week of January 12th

Dear Parent/s,

I hope everyone is getting back into their normal school routine! This week isn't too hectic and hopefully it will be a little warmer! Here are some reminders:

- There will be a dress down day on Wednesday. Please send in $1 to dress down.

- There will be a day of service (next Monday, January 19th) for Martin Luther King Day from 10:00am -12:00pm in the cafeteria. First grade is being asked to donate bar soap. If you could please send in a bar by Friday that would be great!

- I have noticed that lots of kids need to restock their art supplies. If you could ask them to tell you what they need and get them sometime this/next week it would be greatly appreciated. Also, most kids are in need of more index cards for their math facts. Thanks!

- We will have a reading test on Thursday and a spelling test on Friday. The spelling word list will be posted at the bottom of the page.

- I am in need of a Mystery Reader this Thursday,  January 15th from 2:00-2:30. Please email me if you are available.

I think that is it for now! Hope everyone has a wonderful and somewhat warmer week!

Week of January 5th

Dear Parent/s,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break. It was nice to recharge and I wish you all health and happiness in the new year! I would like to thank each of you for being so generous this Christmas. I appreciated each and every gift, card and treat!

This week we will be getting back into our normal school routine. It is important for the kids to get back on their normal homework and sleep schedule. Please be mindful of this in the next week or two. The only test this week will be on Chapter 8 in Religion.

In the second half of school it is my goal to have the students become more independent. In the next month or two they should be able to read the directions and begin working independently, they should be memorizing their math facts (without using fingers or number lines), and they should be able to read our weekly story and other first grade level books out loud with fluency and accuracy. We will also begin having spelling tests (starting next week). With your help and reinforcement at home I know that each student will accomplish these goals. Please let me know if you have any concerns or if your child is struggling with anything.

I am in need of Mystery Readers for the month of January on Thursdays from 2:00-2:30. Please email if you can volunteer on the 8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th.

Have a great week!
