Week of January 12th

Dear Parent/s,

I hope everyone is getting back into their normal school routine! This week isn't too hectic and hopefully it will be a little warmer! Here are some reminders:

- There will be a dress down day on Wednesday. Please send in $1 to dress down.

- There will be a day of service (next Monday, January 19th) for Martin Luther King Day from 10:00am -12:00pm in the cafeteria. First grade is being asked to donate bar soap. If you could please send in a bar by Friday that would be great!

- I have noticed that lots of kids need to restock their art supplies. If you could ask them to tell you what they need and get them sometime this/next week it would be greatly appreciated. Also, most kids are in need of more index cards for their math facts. Thanks!

- We will have a reading test on Thursday and a spelling test on Friday. The spelling word list will be posted at the bottom of the page.

- I am in need of a Mystery Reader this Thursday,  January 15th from 2:00-2:30. Please email me if you are available.

I think that is it for now! Hope everyone has a wonderful and somewhat warmer week!

Miss Tosti

Math
This week we will finish up our flashcards and begin working with fact families which should help the kids to see how addition and subtraction go together. Students will be expected to start memorizing their facts (addition and subtraction). We will continue to do timed math, however the amount of time to complete the 60 problems will go down. Please make sure your child is studying their facts each night. There are a ton of apps and websites that they can used to practice!
Timed math worksheets can be found at the website below. All you need to do is select all of the numbers next to "Adding," click "Create Worksheet" at the bottom of the page and print! http://www.worksheetworks.com/math/basic-operations/addition-up-to-15.html
