Week of 3/11

Dear Parents,

I hope this warmer weather stays with us! The second trimester closes this Friday and I can assure you that this last trimester will FLY by. In this final trimester, we really focus on responsibility, independence and self control. We talk a lot about being "almost second graders" and what being in second grade entails. One of the best parts of teaching first grade is seeing the growth that each child makes in 9 short months. Thinking back from September until now they are completely different kiddos! I am sure you see it too :)

Here are the reminders for this week:

- The Go Run program starts next week! Miss Elisio and I are taking it over this year and are very excited for our first season! If your child wants to join, please see the flyer on the school website and register by Friday!

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return on Wednesday.

- There will be math test on graphing tomorrow. The kids have been doing a great job with this!

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 12 on Friday. A studyguide will be sent home today.

- Leprechaun Traps are due on Friday! If you could refrain from sending them in early it would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, there is not enough room to store 13 traps for the week! Also, if you could have your child practice telling how their traps work that would be great because they will be presenting them to the class!

Learning About Space

We LOVED reading our story "Let's Go to the Moon" the past two weeks! We learned so much about the moon, space and astronauts. We took a tour of the actual moon and we even watched the SpaceX Falcon rocket launch that happened on March 2nd. Check out NASA Kids with your child if they still want to learn more!

Time to start thinking Spring after all of these nuisance snow storms! March is a busy month with Lent, Leprechaun Traps and Terra Nova testing. Please be sure to read all reminders!

- Tuesday is a dress down day. Please send in $1.00.

- There is a Home and School meeting on Tuesday night at 7:00pm on vaping. We hope you can join us as this issue is becoming more and more prevalent.

We worked on our "Seed to Plant" books last week and saw our seeds beginning to sprout in our tower garden! Be on the look out for a special blog all about it soon!

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a nice weekend. It will be great to have a normal, full week of school! This week we will start a new unit in reading and math and continue to review for the Terra Nova test. Here are your other reminders:

- Information about the Leprechaun Trap project will be sent home today! We read a story about how to trap a tricky leprechaun and talked about some ideas of how to create a trap. Please let me know if you have any questions.

- The kids will bring home a new reading workbook tonight that goes with the stories for the second half of the year.

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return on Wednesday. Thanks!

- On Wednesday, the 8th grade is hosting their Business Day. We will be visiting in the afternoon. The price range of the businesses is $1.00-$5.00. If you would like to send in money for your child please do so in a labeled envelope. No food or drink will be sold.

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 11 on Friday.  A study guide will be sent home.

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend! Between holidays, sickness and snow it has been a crazy few weeks! We will see what happens with the weather tomorrow. In the event that we are off, I ask that you complete the homework for Wednesday night with your child. You could even have them do First in Math or Reading Eggs during the day for some extra practice :).  Here are your other reminders for this week:

- Due to the short week and weather forecast for tomorrow, the reading and spelling tests will be moved to Monday (2/25). There will be a math test on 10 more/less, 1 more/less and adding and subtracting two digit numbers on Friday.

- Test folders will be sent home today. Please sign and return tomorrow.

- 8th Grade Business Day is going to be rescheduled for next Wednesday, 2/27. We will be visiting in the afternoon. More information will be on the blog next week.

- We will start reviewing for the Terra Nova test this week. This test is taken in late March.

Dear Parents,

Hope you had a nice weekend! Everyone is back this week and I am SO happy that we are all healthy. We will continue to sanitize every day! We have a busy week ahead with "Kindness Week," school mass and Valentine's Day. Here are your reminders:

- This week the entire school is implementing "Kindness Week." We are doing this to promote kindness throughout the school and also as a way to honor the memory of some faculty members who have lost loved ones recently. Each student will receive the name of another student in the school and throughout the week will do small acts of kindness for that person. It could be writing a simple note or drawing a picture for them! Everyone will find out who they have on Friday! We hope to make kindness contagious! Be sure to ask your child about it! Please remember that no money should be spent and no food should be brought in. Thanks so much!

- On Wednesday, we will have our school mass at 9:00 am! All are invited to join us.

- We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday. Please send valentines in a labeled bag by Thursday morning. Please no candy treats this year.

- On Friday, we will have the Chapter 10 Religion test. A study guide will be sent home.

- No school on Monday, 2/18! Enjoy the long weekend!

Place Value
Last week we worked with place value! We learned that only 9 digits make up all of our numbers and that each digit goes in a special place. We practiced writing digits in the correct places and also learned how to draw them using base ten blocks (ten rods and ones cubes). This week will focus for on finding the value/worth of each digit.
