Week of 10/24

Mrs. Harrity certainly got us into the Halloween spirit last week!

Dear Parents,

A big thank you to all of the grandparents and special friends who came out to make last Wednesday so special. It is always such a wonderful day! Be sure to check out the pictures below. If you would like me to email you a picture just let me know :). A lot is going on again this week so here are your reminders:

- The Saint Celebration is on Friday at 9:00am in the church. Students costumes are due on Thursday in a labeled bag. They are to wear their gym uniforms to school on Friday. Please be sure to sit on the sides of the church.

- There will be a Religion test on Thursday on Chapter 3. A study guide will be sent home.

- FYI the SKS Home and School Raffles are due Thursday.

- The Halloween-a-thon is Monday! Students are to wear their gym uniforms to school and they are to bring their costumes in a labeled bag. All make-up should be done at home before coming to school. If you could make sure your child knows how to put on their costume it would be a big help!

- Please be sure you sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences with are November 3rd and 4th.

A Peek at Our Week!

We will finish Chapter 3 "Jesus Grew Up in a Family". We will learn about the birth of Jesus and the Holy Family. We will have a test on Thursday.

Week of 10/17

Thanks you, Mrs. Irish for coming in last week! It was like a an early Halloween with her treats she brought in!

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend! There are a lot of reminders this week and here they are!

- We will have a spelling and reading test on Friday.

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return all tests on Wednesday (tests do not stay at home).

- A Sign-Up Genius for conferences will be sent out to you this week. Conferences will be on Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th.

- Wednesday, October 19th is Grandparents/Special Friends Day. Grandparents or special friends are invited to join us in the cafeteria at 9:30am to enjoy some light refreshments and to make a small craft. After that we will head to the library to shop for books. It would be helpful if you send money in a labeled envelope. If you know which books they would like to buy, you may also write the titles on the envelope. Thanks for your help!

- Don't forget to mark your calendars for the First Grade Saints Celebration which will be on Friday, October 28th at 9:00am. We will read our reports this week to learn about everyone's saint. Please start getting a simple costume together for the celebration.

- We will be going to Highland Orchards for our first field trip on Friday, November 11th! Permission forms and information were sent home last week. Please return the form and the money (cash/check) by Friday, October 21st. If you have ALL of your clearances and would like to chaperone please email me or send me a note. I will pick chaperones out of a hat this week.

-Thursday, October 20th will be a Dress Down Day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down.

- Friday, October 21st is "Walk With the Principal" to raise awareness for JDRF. Students are to wear their gym uniforms to school. If your child has a JDRF t-shirt they may wear that in place of their gym shirt. Please note that the winter uniform for gym includes sweatpants. Students must wear sweatpants to school every Friday. They can wear shorts underneath and wear them in gym class if they want, but sweatpants must be worn for the rest of the day. Thanks for your cooperation.

- Please check your child's school supplies! Many of them need pencils and some other art supplies.

Week of 10/10

We were surprised again this week with another mystery reader! Thanks, Mrs. DeLisi!

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend! The next few weeks are extremely busy so please pay attention to the reminders.

- Winter uniforms start today!

- Please do a supply check with your child! Lots of students are running low on pencils :).

- Picture day is on Thursday. Please be sure to send your child's form in on or before Thursday. They are to wear their winter uniform.

- We will have the Chapter 2 Religion test on Thursday. A study guide will be sent home.

- Friday will be a Pink Dress Down Day for Breast Cancer Awareness. Please send in $1.00 to dress down. Kids may accessorize (hair, face paint etc.) with pink too as long as is done at home.

- Next Wednesday, October 19th is Grandparents/Special Friends Day. Grandparents or special friends are invited to join us in the cafeteria at 9:30am to enjoy some light refreshments and to make a small craft. After that we will head to the library to shop for books. We will be finished by 10:30am. If you have any questions please let me know.

Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class for a grade.

Week of 10/3

Dear Parents,

Happy October! It will certainly be a busy a month so please be sure to read all of the reminders in the coming weeks. Here are the reminders for this week:

- We will have our monthly Mass on Tuesday at 9:00am. Please join us!

- Tests will be sent home on Tuesday. Please be sure to look over them, sign and return on Wednesday.

- The Cradle to Crayons pod will be here all week. If you would like to donate any gently used clothing, shoes, books, baby items or school supplies please send them to school in a bag or drop them off yourself! Thanks!

- The Respect Life Club is collecting baby pictures of students to put on a bulletin board to celebrate Respect Life Month. If you would like to send in a picture of your child please put it in an envelope marked with their name. The picture will be returned.

- There will be both a math and reading test this Friday.

- Winter uniforms will start on Monday, October 10th.

- School pictures will be on Thursday, October 13th.

- The Book Fair and Grandparents/Special Friends Day will be on Wednesday, October 19th from 9:30-10:30am. Grandparents are welcome to come in and shop and to make a small craft with their grandchild. If grandparents can't make it, a "special friend" like an aunt, uncle etc. will do! A flyer will be sent home this week. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Students will be asked to order numbers, write numbers that come before, after and between, and also compare numbers using the correct signs.

Dear Parents,

I can't believe we are already in the last week of September! Time is flying. We have a a pretty quiet week. Here are your reminders:

- Please continue to check all homework and to initial your child's behavior calendar each night.

- Journals were due today. If your child did not complete it please make sure it is decorated and covered by the end of the week. Thanks!

- The kids did a great job memorizing their Magic Words! Please keep studying each night!

- There will be a spelling test on number words this Friday (one-ten). Please study at home.

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 1 on Wednesday this week. A study guide will be sent home today.

- The SKS TAP Golf Outing is this Thursday!

-  Directions for the Religion homework will be sent home today. Please read them and help your child complete it neatly on the paper provided. Please have your child put their first and last name and the date (9/30/16) on the first line of the theme paper. Thanks for you help!

- Fox 29 will be here tomorrow to help us celebrate our Centennial! It should air between 9-10 am!

Week of 9/19

Thank you, Mrs. Daniels for being our first Mystery Reader!

Dear Parents,

We made it through our first full week! We are settling in and getting used to our routine. Speaking of routines, this is the perfect time to get your child into one for after school when they get home. Children thrive when they have a routine and know what is going to happen. It's a great idea to do homework at the same time every day and in the same quiet space where they have everything they need to complete it. They should be responsible for making sure they have completed everything, had it checked by an adult, and put everything back into their school bag for the next day. If you do this every day I promise homework time will become a piece of cake!

Here are your reminders for the week:

- Homework starts and can be found on the blog and in your child's "HW" copybook.

- Journals will be sent home this week so you can begin decorating. Please make sure they are sent back to school each day. It would be great if they could be decorated and covered by Monday, September 26th.

- We will have our first school Mass on Thursday at 9:00am. Please join us!

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. We will take this together as a practice test so we can get used to the types of questions that will be asked on future tests. This will count as a grade.

- Magic Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night.

- Our first Spelling test will be on Friday, September 30 and it will be on number words. (1-10). We will start practicing this week.

Week of 9/12


Dear Parents,

Welcome to our Classroom Blog! We are so excited to start our first full week of first grade! We have a lot of fun things planned so keep checking our classroom blog for updates and pictures of what is going on in Room 19!

Here are a few reminders for this week:

- Please be sure to check your child's "Home Folder" every night. You can empty out any papers that were completed in school and you may keep the homework paper at home as well. These will be in the "Home" side of the folder. If anything needs to be signed or turned in, please place it in the "To school" side. I ask that your child's behavior calendar (please initial the calendar each night), homework (if a worksheet) and Magic Words envelope be returned each day.

- An "All About Me" project will be sent home today. Please complete this with your child. it will be due next Monday, September 19th.

- Homework and tests will start next week :)

- I need Mystery Readers for the following Thursdays from 2:00-2:30 in September: 9/15, 9/22, and 9/29. Please email me if you are available.

- Friday will be a Dress Down day. Please send in $1.00 with your child. Please also review the dress down day policy in the school handbook :).

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)
